Bonnie Maffei was born Bonita Ann Maffei in Pennsylvania of Italian heritage in the summer of 1945. Bonnie's parents, Olive Garzotto Maffei and Orlando Joseph Maffei were also born in Pennsylvania. Both maternal and paternal grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Italy in the 1890's. Her family moved to California when she was 3 years old. She grew up in Los Angeles, and spent much of her life in Europe, South Africa and the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas.
Bonnie Maffei has exhibited her artwork internationally, as well as at various galleries in the Bay Areas. Currently, a collection of her paintings may be viewed at her studio in Soquel, California, and at the Xanadu Gallery located in Scottsdale, Arizona. She won a scholarship to the legendary Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles at an early age, graduated from San Jose State University with a B.A. in Art, went on to do graduate work, and studied under various private painting tutors, worldwide. Bonnie also holds a Eurythmy diploma from Schule fur Eurythmische Art und Kunst, in Berlin, Germany, and a Therapeutic Eurythmy diploma from the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. The art of Eurythmy contains the wisdom of Anthroposophy.
She has been a teacher for most of her life. Besides working at Waldorf schools and Camphill schools and villages globally, she has held countless public workshops in art and Eurythmy, as well as teaching various artistic courses at HISA, Hellenic International Studies in the Arts, in Paros, Greece.
Bonnie is also a published author. Her children's books can be found on Amazon under her birth name Bonita Maffei. She has received several awards for her screenplays at the Moondance International Film Festival. She has been awarded many prestigious honors for her work in the arts, including the Waldorf Education Foundation Grant, the Kenneth A. Picerne Artist Outreach Project Stipend, and other anonymous grants.
Over the years, she has traveled, worked and exhibited her paintings in Greece, England, Germany, South Africa and the United States. Recently, Bonnie settled in her beloved Monterey, California, near the sea. Currently, she is working on a new series of oil paintings illuminated by a changing spectrum of colored lights.
